Günter Meckenstock

Günter Albert Meckenstock (born January 22, 1948 in Wuppertal ; † July 10, 2020 ) was a Protestant theologian and professor of systematic theology as well as director of the Schleiermacher Research Center of the Theological Faculty at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel .

Life

Günter Meckenstock studied Protestant theology , philosophy and history in Frankfurt am Main , Münster , Bonn , Göttingen , Munich and Kiel . In 1973 he passed the first theological exam in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover , and a year later he received his doctorate in theology from the Georg-August University in Göttingen . From 1974 to 1976 he worked as vicar in Rotenburg (Wümme) , from 1976 to 1978 as pastor in Osnabrück . From 1979 to 1981 he held a teaching position at the University of Education in Kiel, and in 1983 he received his doctorate in philosophy from the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1986 he completed his habilitation in the field of systematic theology in Kiel.

From 1986 to 1990 he taught as a private lecturer and from 1990 to 1994 as an associate professor at the theological faculty of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. From 1994 Günter Meckenstock was Professor of Systematic Theology and Director of the Schleiermacher Research Center at the Theological Faculty in Kiel.

From 2004 he was a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen . He was co-editor of the Critical Complete Edition of Friedrich Schleiermacher's works.

He last lived in Naumburg (Saale) .
