biography

Rhomberg attended schools in Dornbirn and Innsbruck and completed a degree in civil engineering at Graz University of Technology ; In 1963 he graduated as a qualified engineer. He also pursued economic studies and held various positions internationally until 1968. In 1968 he joined the Huber Tricot textile group as sales director and was appointed managing director in 1976. Between 1980 and 2000 he was CEO of the entire Huber Group.

In connection with his work in corporate management, Rhomberg also acted as chairman of the industry section in the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce .

In 1981 Rhomberg took over the management of the Bregenz Festival and played a key role in transforming the festival from a regional to a pan-European well-known festival. In this context, his appointment of Alfred Wopmann as artistic director in 1983 and the continuation of his innovative course by David Pountney , whom Rhomberg also selected, were considered decisive . The Bregenz Festival under Rhomberg's direction was also a successful project economically. In addition, a rehearsal stage was set up, the audience capacity was expanded to 7,000 and the entire building was completely renovated by EUR 38.5 million.

As a member of the foundation board at the Theater in der Josefstadt , Rhomberg was instrumental in the structural and economic renovation of the house from 2005 and in the appointment of Herbert Föttinger as director.

On July 9th, 2014, Minister of Culture Josef Ostermayer announced that Rhomberg would lead the Bundestheater-Holding on an interim basis from September 1st of this year until the end of 2015. The reason for Rhomberg's appointment is his many years of experience both in culture and in the field of corporate management and business administration. His contract was extended in December 2015 to March 2016, and in April 2016 he was succeeded by Christian Kircher as managing director of the Bundestheater-Holding.
