Günter Schnitzler

Günter Schnitzler (born June 16, 1946 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German literary and musicologist .

Life

From 1966 to 1971 he studied German literature , philosophy , musicology and art history at the universities of Cologne , Bonn and Freiburg and was established in 1980 in philosophy with a thesis Zur, philosophy 'of the Vienna Circle , Neopositivistische keywords in the journal, knowledge' doctorate . In 1988 he completed his habilitation with a monograph on Charles Sealsfield (Karl Postl) in the subject of modern German literature . From 1994 until his retirement he was professor for modern German literature and music at the University of Freiburg .

From 1999 to 2017 he was the head of Studium generale at the University of Freiburg. The “Saturday University”, which appeals to a large audience, was founded by Günter Schnitzler in 2006.

From 1974 until the end of 2018, Günter Schnitzler was the editor of the interdisciplinary journal Freiburger Universitätsblätter , which had existed since 1962 and was published quarterly under Schnitzler's direction on behalf of the Rector of the University of Freiburg. Since 1993 he has been co-editor of the Hugo von Hofmannsthal yearbook on European modernism as well as several interdisciplinary and literary series of publications.

He is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences , a founding member of the Society for Music and Aesthetics, and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Charles Sealsfield Society .
