Günter Simon (journalist, 1933)

Günter Simon (born May 6, 1933 in Großbaudis , Liegnitz district , today Budziszów Wielki , rural community Wądroże Wielkie ) is a German journalist . From 1981 to 1989 he was editor-in-chief of the FDGB central organ “ Tribüne ” in the GDR .

Life

Simon, son of a farm laborer, attended elementary, secondary and high school. He joined the SED in 1950 . Simon studied journalism from 1952 to 1955 at the University of Leipzig and graduated with a degree in journalism. After an internship (1954/55) at the Neuer Tag newspaper in Frankfurt (Oder) , he worked from 1956 to 1962 as editor and head of the foreign policy department for the tribune . From 1963 to 1967 he was a member of their editorial collective. In 1967 Simon became deputy editor-in-chief of the tribune . From 1975 he was correspondent for the grandstand in Bonn and then again deputy editor-in-chief of the grandstand and editor-in-chief of the trade union life magazine . On September 15, 1981, he succeeded Claus Friedrich as editor-in-chief of the tribune and remained so until 1989.

On September 23, 1981, he was co-opted into the federal executive committee at the 14th meeting of the FDGB federal executive committee and elected as a member of its executive committee. He held this position until 1989.
