Günter Straßmeir

Günter Straßmeir (born June 20, 1929 in Röthenbach near Sankt Wolfgang , † December 24, 2009 in Büdingen ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

From October 1989 to December 1990 he was Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Chancellor and authorized representative of the Federal Government in Berlin .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1947, Straßmeir studied political science at the German University of Politics in Berlin from 1950 , from which he graduated in 1954 with a diploma. He then worked there as a research assistant and in 1955 joined the public service of the Senator for the Interior of the State of Berlin.

Günter Straßmeir was married and had three children.

Political party

Straßmeir became involved in the CDU from 1956. From 1969 to 1979 Straßmeir was chairman of the district association Berlin-Wilmersdorf and from 1981 to 1985 first general secretary of the regional association Berlin of the CDU, from 1986 its deputy chairman.

MP

Straßmeir was a member of the German Bundestag from 1972 to 1990 . From 1982 to 1989 he was chairman of the transport working group of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group . He was always a member of the Bundestag from Berlin.

From January 11, 1991 to November 30, 1995, Straßmeir was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives .

Public offices

From 1965 to 1971, Straßmeir was district councilor for finances and economics and from 1971 to 1972 district councilor for public education in the Berlin-Wilmersdorf district.

After the death of Lieselotte Berger Strassmeir was on 26 October 1989 as the successor to the Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Government in Berlin in by Chancellor Helmut Kohl led government appointed. With the dissolution of the department on December 31, 1990, Straßmeir also left the office.

On October 18, 1998 he was awarded the honorary title of " City Elder of Berlin ".
