Günther Karl Bonn (born January 15, 1954 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian chemist .

Life

Günther Bonn studied chemistry and physics teacher at Leopold Franzens University Innsbruck , which he completed in 1976 with the Magisterium. While he was still earning his first spurs as an AHS teacher, he began studying for a doctorate at the Institute for Radiochemistry in Innsbruck and was awarded a "summa cum laude" doctorate in 1979. phil. PhD. He worked at the university, first as a contract assistant and later as a university assistant, where he also habilitated in analytical chemistry in 1985 .

In 1988 he spent two years abroad as a visiting professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering of Csaba Horvath at Yale University , USA. The University of Linz appointed him in 1991 as a full professor for analytical chemistry. Only three years later he accepted the call of his home university and became full professor for analytical chemistry at the Institute for Analytical Chemistry and Radiochemistry at the University of Innsbruck (1995), where he has also been the director of the institute since 1996 . Since March 2011, he is also co-director of the newly founded Academy -Instituts Austrian Drug Screening Institute , ADSI.

In addition to its scientific career, Bonn began to deal with science and research policy issues at an early stage. In 1991 he became a member of the Large Equipment Commission of the Federal Ministry of Science and Research , 1993–1999 a member of the University of Applied Sciences Council and 1996–2003 a member and consultant of the Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research (FWF). From 2002 to 2007 Bonn was a member of the Science and Research Council of the State of Salzburg. In 2003 he also took over the presidency of the BIT - Office for International Research and Technology Cooperation.

From 2000 to 2010 Günther Bonn was a member and deputy chairman of the most important research policy advisory body in Austria, the Council for Research and Technology Development . Since 2003 he has also been a member and deputy chairman of the University Council of the Medical University of Innsbruck .

Services

Bonn's special topics lie in basic research and its technical applications of chemical analysis methods, particularly in the areas of bio-, genetic and phytoanalysis, environmental and radio analysis.

He is a member of the editorial board of international scientific journals such as Chromatographia , Journal of Separation Science , Current in Medicinal Chemistry , Pharmacogenomics and LC GC Europe .

He has published more than 180 scientific articles, is co-author of two books and is involved in eleven patents.

In 2003 Günther Bonn received the Halasz Medal Award.

In 2011, Bonn received the Tyrolean Decoration of Honor .
