Günther Goller
Günther Goller (born September 18, 1928 in Sillian ; † September 16, 2017 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). Goller was a city councilor in Vienna and club chairman of the Vienna People's Party.
education and profession
Goller was born the son of an East Tyrolean veterinarian and attended five classes at the elementary school in Sillian. He then switched to high school in Lienz in 1939 , where he completed six classes. In 1945 Goller continued his education at the Paulinum Episcopal High School in Schwaz , where he graduated in 1947. Goller went to Vienna in 1947 and studied two semesters at the veterinary college. He then moved to the University of Vienna and studied Oriental Studies at the Philosophical Faculty. In 1953 Goller received his doctorate as Dr. phil.where his major was Turkology and his minor was Islamic Studies. Then Goller also studied law at the law faculty.
Goller was employed as a research assistant at the “Oriental Institute” at the University of Vienna in 1950, but left his academic career in 1956 at his own request. In 1956 he entered the service of the state party leadership of the ÖVP Vienna and between 1959 and 1983 held the function of club secretary. Goller was a knight of the Sovereign Order of Malta and since 1947 a member of the Catholic student union KÖHV Rugia Vienna in the ÖCV .
politics
Goller was sworn in on April 27, 1969 as a member of the Vienna State Parliament and member of the Vienna City Council, of which he was a permanent member until October 29, 1990. From 1972 Goller held a direct mandate in the constituency of Vienna- Landstrasse . Goller was particularly active in the “Health Care”, “Various Legal Matters” and “Finance and Economic Policy” committees as well as in the “Control Committee”. From November 23, 1973 Goller also belonged to the Vienna state government and the Vienna City Senate, but remained without a department due to the SPÖ's sole government. Goller was a member of the state governments Gratz II and Gratz III and left the office of the city council when the successor government was sworn in on May 27, 1983. He was subsequently club chairman of the ÖVP in the local council and state parliament between 1983 and 1990.
Goller died in Vienna two days before his 89th birthday. He was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .
