Günther Kretzschmar (born February 4, 1929 in Hohenstein-Ernstthal , † January 24, 1986 in Bremen ) was a German composer .

biography

Kretzschmar studied music in Leipzig and Halle from 1948 to 1953 , was a church musician in Torgau (Johann-Walther-Kantorei) from 1954 to 1959 and a church musician in Bremen from 1959 to 1977 .

From 1977 he lived as a freelance composer in Bremen, had been a freelancer for Radio Bremen since 1959 and was director of the Bremen children's choir and the choir of the Bremen youth music school.

As a seminar leader in Germany and abroad and as a lecturer for music at the University of Bremen, he worked as a multiplier in the field of youth music education. Kretzschmar campaigned for the integration of the subject of children's choir conducting into the higher education of the church music course. According to Carl Orff, he made a great contribution to music for children .

His sacred and secular cantatas and his numerous songs for children (many based on texts by James Krüss ) are part of the repertoire of choirs and children's choirs in Germany. His wife, Helga Kretzschmar, created the choreographies for his works.

He was editor of the collection The Children's Choir at Hänssler Verlag (now Carus Verlag ).
