Günther Leonhart

Günther Leonhart (born August 31, 1929 in Bad Kreuznach ; † March 23, 2003 there ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1967 to 1980 he was a member of the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate and from 1980 to 1990 a member of the German Bundestag .

Life

After attending elementary school and vocational school, Leonhart completed an apprenticeship as a surveyor in the cultural administration from 1944, which he completed in 1947. He became an employee in the public service and worked in the state culture administration until 1967, and from 1952 as an officially certified surveying technician. In 1946 he joined the union and from 1958 to 1967 he was chairman of the staff council at the Bad Kreuznach cultural office.

Leonhart began his political career with the Socialist Youth of Germany - Die Falken . He joined the SPD in 1956 and was one of the founding members of the Juso Association in Bad Kreuznach in 1957 , of which he was the first chairman. From 1958 he was a member of the Juso district board. Later he was a member of the SPD district executive and SPD sub-district chairman as well as a member of the advisory board for employee issues and agricultural policy at the SPD party executive.

Leonhart had been a councilor for the city of Bad Kreuznach since 1960 and was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group there from 1962 to 1971. From 1971 to 1975 he was mayor of Kreuznach, and in this function he was assigned to Lord Mayor Peter Fink .

In the state elections in 1967 , 1971 , 1975 and 1979 he was elected as a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament. In parliament he was deputy chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Viticulture from 1967 to 1971 and a member of the Administrative Reform Committee and the Intermediate Committee, from 1971 to 1975 a member of the Social Policy Committee, from 1975 to 1979 a member of the Committee on Agriculture, Viticulture and the Environment and the Budget and Finance Committee and from 1979 to 1980 member of the Agriculture, Viticulture and Forestry Committee. After his election to the Bundestag, he resigned from the Landtag on November 30, 1980. Anni Schneider took over the mandate in the replacement procedure.

Leonhart was a member of the German Bundestag from 1980 to 1990. He had in the federal elections in 1980 , 1983 and 1987 , the direct mandate in constituency 150 (Kreuznach) won and was in all legislatures, a member of the defense committee .

Leonhart was a member of the European Union , the State Youth Welfare Committee and the Workers' Welfare Association .
