The GC Mb series is a series of freight locomotives for the Swedish railway company Green Cargo .

history

After testing a locomotive in Sweden in 2015, Green Cargo ordered two locomotives from the Softronic Transmontana series from the Romanian vehicle manufacturer Softronic in Craiova in 2017 . Softronic was founded in 1999 and initially mainly dealt with the conversion and modernization of older locomotives. In 2008 Softronic started its own production, which in 2010, among others , resulted in a new six-axle locomotive called the Transmontana . Locomotives of this type were previously sold to DB Schenker Rail Romania SRL and the Hungarian CER Cargo .

Green Cargo has not had its own six-axle locomotives since the last GC Ma (I) and GC Ma (II) were shut down or sold between 2012 and 2014. The Transmontana locomotive was given the series designation Mb .

For construction and transfer, the locomotives from the manufacturer had the construction designation LEMA 032 and 033 and the UIC no. 91 53 0 480032-8 and 91 53 0 480033-6 obtained.

In April 2018, Green Cargo decided to order six more Transmontana locomotives. The first two series locomotives 4001 and 4002 arrived in Trelleborg on July 5, 2018 , the remaining six will be delivered in autumn 2019.

Technical specifications

With an output of 6,000 kW, the locomotive can move freight trains up to 3,000 tons. They are therefore almost twice as powerful as the Rc locomotives from Green Cargo, which with 3600 kW can handle a train weight of 1600 tons. One Mb locomotive can replace two Rc4 locomotives connected with multiple units .

The locomotives can be operated at both 25 kV 50 Hz and 15 kV 16.7 Hz and can, if necessary, be used in Denmark if the necessary safety systems are installed. They have regenerative brakes that take into account the topography of the routes in order to make driving as energy-efficient as possible.

Names

The locomotives are named after Swedish waterfalls:
