The EV Innsbruck (also Innsbrucker EV ) was an ice hockey club from the Tyrolean capital Innsbruck , which participated in the highest Austrian league, the Austrian ice hockey league, until 1993 .
history
EV Innsbruck was founded in 1925 as the ice hockey section of the Innsbruck Ice Skating Club and initially took part in the provincial championship within the Austrian championship.
From the 1950s, the section took part in the Austrian ice hockey league. The team celebrated their greatest successes shortly after the Second World War by winning several championship titles. In the 1960s the ice hockey section became independent and was called EV Innsbruck from then on.
For a short time there was inner-city competition in the Austrian ice hockey league in 1969/70 from EC Innsbruck Pradl , which, however, was only able to stay in the top league for one season. In 1973 the two teams merged to form EC Innsbruck, which in the following years ran under different names in the Bundesliga due to changing sponsors. The last major success followed in the 1988/89 season with the seventh championship title.
The 1992/93 season was the last with the participation of EV Innsbruck, which then relegated to the second highest division. After only one participation in the national league, which ended with the championship win, the club was dissolved in 1994. In the following year, the successor club in the league started with HC Innsbruck for the first time , which functioned as the second highest division in the 1995/96 season . In 2000, HC Innsbruck was promoted to the Bundesliga, which was the first time since 1993 to welcome a club from the Tyrolean capital. In 2009, however, this club also rose voluntarily to the National League .
