Gabriele Raether , née Gabriele Ober , 2nd married name Gabriele Lohmann (born January 15, 1947 in Magdeburg ) is a German college teacher and author .

Life

Because he was involved in the uprising of June 17, 1953 , Gabriele Raether's father was imprisoned for 17 months, after which the family fled the GDR. Growing up as a child of non-academic parents in a refugee settlement in Cologne-Ostheim, she completed the second educational path (secondary school and advanced high school). After graduating from high school in 1966, she studied German , biology , philosophy and education at the University of Cologne and at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In addition to nature, literature and politics, her early areas of interest were especially socialization theories, questions of justice and class, the relationship between men and women (historical, sociological, psychological) and female biographies. During a six-month stay in the USA in 1968, she made contacts with the Women's Liberation Movement .

In 1971 she married the Romanist Martin Raether and moved to Heidelberg. After the divorce in 1974, she broke off her doctorate and went to school. In 1986 she married the publicist Hans-Martin Lohmann for the second time and had a daughter in 1987. A contribution she published in 1989 on the subject of co-education in the magazine Emma led to a scandal at the school, bullying , a hearing in the regional council and the change of the grammar school, where she was a women's representative for eight years. As a single parent and versatile activist, there was no time to write. After her retirement, she developed new activities: She is again active in literature, is a member of the board of directors of the Heidelberg Literature Network and a member of the board of directors of the “Forum Antike” friends of the Archaeological Institute of Heidelberg University.
