Gaetano Matteo Pisoni
Gaetano Matteo Pisoni (born July 18, 1713 in Ascona , † March 4, 1782 in Locarno ) was a Swiss architect.
Career
After an apprenticeship as a bricklayer in Breitenwang in Tyrol , he trained as an architect at the Accademia di San Luca in Rome from 1735 to 1740 and in Milan from 1740 to 1745. From 1750 he worked in Brussels , where he a. a. created the plans for the cathedral Saint-Aubain in Namur , built from 1751 to 1759 , and from 1753 in Vienna in the service of Prince Josef Wenzel I of Liechtenstein . From 1756 he traveled to Milan, Dresden and Rome, where he was supported by Pope Clement XIII in 1760 . received the title of Knight from the Golden Spur .
In 1763 he came to Solothurn with his nephew Paolo Antonio Pisoni , where he took over the project planning of the St. Ursus Cathedral . Other works by Pisoni from this period are the town church in Delsberg and the orphanage in Zurich . Pisoni left Solothurn in 1770 and returned to Ascona.
