The product portfolio as well as research and development are geared towards the field of dermatology . The product range includes drugs for the treatment of diseases of the skin , hair and nails .

Galderma has research and development centers in Sophia Antipolis (France), Princeton (New Jersey) and Tokyo . The production facilities are located in Alby-sur-Chéran (France), Montreal (Canada) and Hortolândia (Brazil).

The company has 31 offices on five continents. The German branch operates as Galderma Laboratorium GmbH and is based in Düsseldorf .

Company history

Galderma was founded in 1981 as a joint venture between Nestlé and L'Oréal . Seven years later, the joint venture took over the dermatological business of Alcon , which was taken over by Nestlé in 1977. In 1995 Galderma brought the acne therapeutic agent Differin (active ingredient: adapalen ), the first self-developed drug onto the market. Basotherm GmbH, a subsidiary of Boehringer Ingelheim , was taken over in 1997. With Silkis (active ingredient: calcitriol ), a remedy for psoriasis was brought onto the market in 2000 . In 2001, Galderma acquired an exclusive license for the production and distribution of Metvix (active ingredient: methyl 5-amino-4-oxopentanoate ) from the Norwegian company Photocure . In 2003 Metvix began selling . In 2008 CollaGenex Pharmaceuticals was taken over with the brand Oracea , an agent against rosacea (active ingredient: doxycycline ). The anti-wrinkle agent Azzalure (active ingredient: botulinum toxin ) was launched on the European market in 2009. In 2011, the company Q-Med based in Uppsala (Sweden) was taken over. Q-Med is active in the field of breast enlargement using injections of hyaluronic acid . In 2014 Nestlé took over the 50% stake in L'Oréal, and Galderma has since been part of the new Nestlé Skin Health division. In 2019, Nestlé sold Galderma to a consortium led by the financial investor EQT and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA)
