Galerie Abriss , also Abriss Galerie , was a gallery in Hamburg .

The gallery was founded in 1986 as a non-profit exhibition space for experimental artists and existed until the end of 1992.

The gallery got its name from its location on the then occupied and demolished Hamburg Hafenstrasse . Various exhibitions, concerts and performances were held in interdisciplinary collaboration on five levels down to an extensive vault. It was run as a non-commercial project, as a space for experimental art forms, by Jörg Menzel (technology) and the painter Pittjes Hitschfeld (artistic direction) and offered space for a crossover of all art forms from trash , pop and Dada to high culture. In the late 1980s, Galerie Abriss was the Hamburg underground gallery par excellence. This was also due to the close proximity to the then occupied Hafenstrasse houses in Bernhard-Nocht-Strasse, but especially to the specialty of the gallery with its anti-establishment approach and a high artistic level.

In the then still cross-border collaboration with Gerd Harry Lybke and his Leipzig gallery Eigen + Art , East German artists were able to exhibit their work, sometimes illegally, in the West. Pittjes Hitschfeld now works as a painter in a studio in Hamburg's Gängeviertel .

The gallery showed works by Zoyt , Via Lewandowsky , The Sisters of Mercy (Record Launch), Annette Schröter , Erasmus Schröter , Gerd Stange , Miss Nico, H Schlagen, Carola Göllner and Christian Großkopft, Matthias Taube, Rolf Bergmeier , Thomas Kummerow , Armin Völckers , Krista Beinstein and Harald Vogel.
