The Iris Wazzau gallery in Davos-Platz is a private art gallery and art dealer in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. The focus is on works of expressionism and modern art .

history

Ann Haas and Iris Wazzau founded an art gallery in Davos-Dorf in 1972. In 1975 Iris Wazzau became the sole owner. At the same time, the gallery moved to Promenade 72 in Davos-Platz.

program

The gallery program was and is German Expressionism , Modern Art and Abstract Expressionism . The program arose from the fact that the important German expressionist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner spent the last 20 years of his life in Davos.

The lesser-known German expressionist Philipp Bauknecht also settled in Davos in 1910, suffering from severe lung disease. His entire work was created in the high valley of Davos.

The gallery took part in Art Basel , Art Cologne and Art Chicago for many years . Iris Wazzau has also been active in the international art trade for years. She is a member of the Swiss Art Trade Association and the CINOA.

Exhibitions and represented artists

The focus of the gallery is on works of expressionism and modern art. Mainly represented are: Philipp Bauknecht , Sam Francis , Gottfried Honegger , Paul Jenkins , Robert Käppeli, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner , Carl Walter Liner , Heinz Mack , Emil Nolde , Serge Poliakoff , Niki de Saint-Phalle , Mark Tobey and Varlin as well as the Swiss Expressionists Albert Müller and Hermann Scherer . These are shown again and again in solo and group exhibitions. Catalogs document the respective exhibitions.

Publications

The gallery published 57 catalogs for its exhibitions by October 2018. These are represented in libraries such as the Swiss National Library , the German National Library , museum libraries, university and specialist libraries. The gallery is the editor of Philipp Bauknecht's catalog raisonné, which was published by Swiridoff Verlag in 2016.
