The Parisian bedstraw ( Galium parisiense ) is a type of plant from the genus bedstraws ( Galium ) within the red family (Rubiaceae).
description
The Parisian bedstraw grows as an herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 10 to 20 centimeters. The stem is square with backward-pointing spines. The leaves are 1 to 2 millimeters wide and rough on the edge due to forward-facing spines.
The flowering period extends from June to September. The flowers are solitary or up to seven both axillary and clustered in a terminal panicle inflorescence . The greenish-yellow flowers , red on the outside, are very small and narrower than the fruit, with a diameter of only 0.5 millimeters.
The fruit stalks are upright. The fruits are 0.8 to 1 millimeter long, grainy-rough and stiff-haired or glabrous.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22, 44 or 66.
Occurrence
The distribution area of the Parisian bedstraw includes Macaronesia , Europe and the Mediterranean area to Iran . In Central Europe , the Parisian bedstraw occurs occasionally in the Palatinate , on the upper Moselle and in the Wetterau ; it is rare in Lower Austria and at the foot of the Alps .
The Paris lab herb thrives on nitrogen-rich, calcium-poor, sandy-gravelly loam soils . It populates fields and fallow land, roadsides and nearby wasteland. It occurs mainly in the Filagini-Vulpietum from the Thero-Airion association or in Secalietea societies .
