Gam ( Indonesian Pulau Gam , also Pulau Gaman ) is an island in the Raja Ampat archipelago off the coast of western New Guinea ( Indonesia ).

geography

Gam consists of a compact eastern part and a smaller western part. They are connected by a land bridge, which is framed in the north by Warparim Bay and in the south by Besir Bay .

The island is located in the north of Raja Ampat, northwest of the Vogelkop Peninsula of New Guinea . It is separated from the double island of Waigeo in the north by the very narrow Kabuystraße . Here, Waigeo surrounds Kabuy Bay ( Indonesian Teluk Kabuy ) from west, north and east . Gam closes the bay for a large part to the south, the main access of which is east of the island. A side bay of the Kabuy bay is the Soemlamanjoko bay in the north of Gam. To the east of this is Cape Kalebenet , the northernmost point of Gam.

To the south of Gam lie the islands of Mansuar and Kri on the Dampier Strait , and across the Strait of Batanta and Salawati . To the west are among other things the Faminseln and Gag .

On Gam lie the Desa Arborek , Kapisawar , Sawinggrai and Yenwaoupnor , which belong to the Meosmanswar district . The Desa Yenbeser in the northeast belongs to the district of South Waigeo ( Waigeo Selatan ). The archipelago forms the administrative district of Raja Ampat in the province of West Papua .
