Gamla stan is an above-ground station on the Stockholm Metro . It is located in the Gamla Stan district . The Gröna linjen and Röda linjen of the Stockholm subway system stop at the station . This fact and the central location in the city center make the station one of the most frequented stations on the underground network. On a normal working day, 25,300 commuters get on and off here.
The station went into operation on November 24, 1957 when the Slussen - Hötorget subway section was inaugurated. The four-track system is located below the Centralbron . The station is located between the T-Centralen and Slussen stations . It is around one kilometer to Stockholm Central Station .
