Gareth John Williams (born December 16, 1981 in Glasgow ) is a former Scottish football player . In 2002 he played five internationals for the Scottish national team .
Player career
Nottingham Forest
Coming from his own youth academy, Gareth Williams made his debut on December 26, 1999 for Nottingham Forest in the Football League First Division 1999/2000 . Two seasons later , Williams (44 league games) became a regular under new coach Paul Hart . Hart had previously successfully coached the club's youth team and integrated other young players into the first team in addition to Williams with Andy Reid , Michael Dawson and Jermaine Jenas . In the 2002/03 season Forest reached sixth place in the table, but failed in the first play-off round at Sheffield United .
Leicester City and Watford FC
On July 1, 2004, Williams left the financially ailing club and moved to the Premier League relegated Leicester City . With his new club, he spent the following two seasons only in midfield of the newly introduced Football League Championship , before moving to the first division club Watford on January 31, 2007 . After his first division debut on February 3, 2007 in a 0-1 home defeat to Bolton Wanderers , he played two more league games until the end of the season and rose with Watford as bottom of the Premier League 2006/07 .
In April 2007, Williams tore a cruciate ligament which ultimately led to the premature end of his playing career.
Scottish national team
Williams made his debut for the Scottish national team on April 17, 2002 in a 2-1 home defeat in a friendly against Nigeria. He played his fifth and last international match on November 20, 2002 in a 2-0 defeat in Portugal.
Coaching career
In the summer of 2016, he became the coach of the Málaga City Academy Football Academy , from Torrox Costa in the province of Málaga . In August 2017 he also became a player-coach for the Tercera Andaluza club CD Almuñecar City . ,
