Garrett is a small town with Town status in Ellis County , Texas in the United States . At the last census in 2010 , Garrett had 806 inhabitants, for 2018 the population was estimated at 1,062.

Garrett is just north of Ennis and about 20 kilometers as the crow flies east of Waxahachie on Interstate Highway 45 . Other neighboring towns and villages are Palmer in the north, Bristol in the northeast, Crisp in the east, Reagor Springs in the southwest and Boyce in the west. Farm-to-Market-Road 879 runs through Garrett .
history
The Garrett settlement was established in the 1870s as part of the construction of a railway line from Waxahachie to town to transport cotton to Ennis. The place was named after William Garrett, who was one of the first settlers in the area. In 1888 Garrett had just under 100 residents, fifteen businesses, four churches and a school. A post office was opened in 1894. In the 1940s, the railway line to Waxahachie was discontinued. On July 23, 1956, Garrett was officially incorporated as a city. The city's post office was closed in 1960.

For the year 2018, the population of Garrett was given as 1,062, this corresponds to a population growth of 256 inhabitants or 31.8 percent compared to the 2010 census. 82.5 percent of the population were white, 2.6 percent African-American , 3, 9 percent of Native Americans, 2.4 percent of Asian people, 1.8 percent of other ethnicities, and 6.9 percent of multiple ethnicities. 71.9 percent of Garrett's residents were Hispanics or Latinos. 47.7 percent of the population were male and 52.3 percent female.
In terms of age, the population of Garrett was 42.8 percent minors, 9.7 percent between 18 and 24, 24.7 percent between 25 and 44, 17.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 5.7 percent of the population were older than 65 years.
