Gary Reed (born October 25, 1981 in Corpus Christi , Texas ) is a Canadian middle-distance runner who specializes in the 800-meter course .

Career

Reed made his first major international appearance at the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis . With a time of 1: 48.69 minutes over the 800 meters, he did not qualify for the semi-finals as third in his preliminary run.

He succeeded in doing this a year later at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . In the semifinals, however, he was eliminated, with a time of 1: 47.38 minutes he was only seventh in the second semifinal run. He had won his lead in 1: 46.7 minutes.

Another year later he finally made it to the finals at the World Championships in Helsinki . With 1: 46.20 minutes he finished eighth there.

In 2006, his good times increased his international fame. On August 27th, he ran a Canadian record at the sports festival in Rieti . He mastered the 800 meters in 1: 43.93 minutes. This was the final leap into the top of the world.

On the international stage, he proved this a year later at the World Championships in Osaka , where he won the silver medal. After a slow first lap of 55 seconds, Reed led the field ahead of Abraham Chepkirwok from Uganda , who later came fourth . On the home stretch there was a heavy final sprint between Reed and the Kenyan Alfred Kirwa Yego . In 1: 47.10 minutes, Reed reached the goal just a hundredth of a second after Yego.

At the 2008 Olympics in Beijing he finished fourth at the 2009 world championships in Berlin , he was eliminated in the semifinals.
