Cardinal Gaudencio Borbon Rosales (born August 10, 1932 in Batangas City , Batangas , Philippines ) is a Filipino clergyman and Archbishop Emeritus of Manila .

Life

Rosales was born to Godofredo D. Rosales and Remedios M. Borbon on August 10, 1932 in Batangas City and has six siblings. After studying Catholic theology received on 23 March 1958 by the Archbishop of Lipa , Alejandro Olalia that the sacrament of Holy Orders . He then worked first as a rain for the seminary , then as a pastor in the Archdiocese of Lipa.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on August 12, 1974 titular bishop of Oescus and auxiliary bishop in Manila. The Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Bruno Torpigliani , donated his episcopal consecration on October 28 of the same year.

On June 9, 1982 Pope appointed him John Paul II. To Coadjutor Bishop in the Diocese of Malaybalay , and on September 14, 1984 Rosales was bishop of this diocese. On December 30, 1992, he was appointed Archbishop of Lipa and was appointed to succeed him as Archbishop of Manila on September 15, 2003 after the retirement of Jaime Lachica Cardinal Sin . With the solemn inauguration on November 21 of the same year, he also became primate of the Philippines, as this title is traditionally associated with the metropolitan seat of Manila. The pallium was presented to him on June 29, 2004 by John Paul II in Rome .

Rosales is Grand Prior of the Filipino Lieutenancy of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .

Pope Benedict XVI accepted him in the solemn consistory on March 24, 2006 as a cardinal priest with the titular church Santissimo Nome di Maria in Via Latina in the college of cardinals . On October 13, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI. the resignation put forward by Gaudencio Rosales for reasons of age.
