Venues of the Gauliga Baden 1938/39 |
The Gauliga Baden 1938/39 was the sixth season of the Gauliga Baden in football . It began on September 11, 1938 and ended on May 18, 1939. Last year's champions VfR Mannheim did not lose any of the 18 season games, defending their title with ease and qualifying for the final round of the German championship . In the fight against relegation this round was extremely close. The second relegated next to the knocked-off newcomer Offenburger FV was - after several protests - determined by a playoff between SpVgg Sandhofen and VfL Neckarau . Sandhofen won 2-0 and Neckarau should have relegated to the second division for the first time since the Gauliga was founded. Since the 1939/40 season was carried out in several seasons due to the outbreak of war, both "relegated" came back to the top division.

Playoff place 8:
Since at the end of the season it was not foreseeable that the Gauliga would be expanded for the coming season due to the war, there was a playoff for relegation between the two teams from Sandhofen and Neckarau with the same points, which Sandhofen was able to contest victoriously. The game was played by order of the Reichsfachamt.
