The Gauliga Alsace 1940/41 was the first season of the Gauliga Alsace of the professional football department . In it teams from Alsace , which was occupied right at the beginning of the French campaign , played for the Gaume Championship and thus participation in the final round of the German football championship. Numerous clubs changed their French names and adopted German-language names. The first season of this Gauliga was played in two seasons in a round-robin tournament, the season winners of which played the Gaumeister in two final pairings. The Gau championship was secured for the first time by FC Mülhausen and thus qualified for the German football championship in 1940/41 . In this, the Mülhausener eliminated in a group with VfL Cologne 1899 , Kickers Offenbach and TuS Helene Altenessen with one draw and five defeats. Since the coming season was played on a single track with twelve teams, the three worst teams were relegated from each season this season.
