The Gebhardsberg above Bregenz in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg is up to 598  m above sea level. A. high mountain spur on the southwest slope of the Pfänder . The panoramic mountain is particularly popular with walkers and hikers on the way from Bregenz up to the Pfänder. The rock face under the Gebhardsberg has been developed as a climbing garden since the 1980s .

history

The castle ruins of Hohenbregenz Castle , the pilgrimage chapel and the Gebhardsberg castle restaurant are located on the mountain . Only the curtain wall of the core castle and parts of the palace are preserved from the castle complex.

In 1723, a pilgrimage church of St. Gebhard , who gave the mountain his name, was built in the former hall of the castle .

Nature trail

The nature trail set up in 1993 begins below the castle ruins. Along the edge of the edge of the Bregenzer Ach valley , the path leads over the Känzele up towards Fluh and through the “Buchwald” back to the starting point.

At various stations, hikers receive information on biology ( mountain ash , pine , annual rings , linden , black alder , sessile oak , wood ants ), geology ( sandstone and conglomerate layers ) and the history of the Gebhardsberg.
