Geißlingen is a district of the municipality of Klettgau in the district of Waldshut in Baden-Württemberg , Germany .

geography

The village with around 950 inhabitants is located in Klettgau and is the westernmost part of the municipality of Klettgau on a southern slope, surrounded by fruit trees and not far from broad deciduous forests on the slopes of the Jura- Randen foothills and the Birnberg (637 m), hiking trails through the forest lead to the Küssaburg , the Alkenhof and the Reutehöfen and the Wannenberg transmitter . The Klingengraben flows north of the village , the Schwarzbach flows south . Despite strong residential development with several commercial settlements, agriculture is still an important part of the place due to the fertile Velcro soils.

history

Finds from the Hallstatt and Latène times have been made in the Geißlinger district . The Heidenschlössle at the Heideggerhof dates from Roman times . It was a 40 by 40 m building. Stamp of the XI. and the XXI. Legion , several coins, and a red sandstone head with characters of the 3rd Hispanic cohort were found.

Geißlingen, whose place name means among the members of Gisilo , was first mentioned in a document in 876 when Gotsbert, Landgrave in Klettgau, gave his property in the village to the Rheinau monastery. Marquardt von Krenkingen-Weissenburg handed over his property in Geisslingen to the Augustinian monastery Detzeln in 1111 , which was later relocated to Riedern am Wald . In 1350 this Geißlinger cloister yard was given to the women's monastery in Riedern am Wald , with which it remained until it was closed. In 1345 Konrad von Krenkingen was elected Vogtherr at Roggenbach Castle . In 1524 Thomas Müntzer brought the teaching of the Anabaptists to the Klettgau. In 1845 27 houses burned down.

In church history, Geißlingen is mentioned for the first time in 1444 as a branch of the parish of Grießen. The Catholic Church established a curate in 1898 and an independent parish in Geißlingen in 1910. A church building has existed since 1459 at the latest. The church of St. Katharina was significantly expanded in the years 1820/21. The Protestant parishioners belong to the parish of Klettgau.

On January 1, 1975, Geißlingen was incorporated into the municipality of Klettgau.

economy

The still partly agricultural place has developed into a housing estate with a small industrial area . In Won herons forest occurs gravel mining by the company Bechtel & Szilaky gravel plants .

traffic

The district is crossed by the B 34 in an east-west direction. There are also road connections in the direction of Grießen and Schwerzen. The tracks of the Hochrheinbahn also run in an east-west direction. The Grießen stop can be reached by bus or by foot, but is currently only served by school trains.
