The Schwarzbach on the outskirts of Riedern am Sand

The Schwarzbach is a left tributary of the Klingengraben , which runs partially in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland and in the district of Waldshut in Baden-Württemberg .

Geographical location and topography

The Schwarzbach rises from the southern range of hills that separates the Rhine from the Klettgau . The headwaters are located in Switzerland in the canton of Zurich, about 2 km northwest of the municipality of Rafz and about 1 km east of the Berwangen district of the German municipality of Dettighofen .

After about 4 kilometers, the Schwarzbach runs entirely on German territory, passes the districts of Bühl and Riedern am Sand and leaves its valley at the end of Riedern am Sand and now runs in the plain of the German Klettgau . Shortly after entering the plain, about halfway along its course, the Seegraben flows from the east. This also contributes water from the Swiss northern edge of the southern chain of hills of the Klettgau from the area around Osterfingen (CH) and the Wangental . The castle hill of Weißenburg Castle is located above the Seegraben near Weisweil .

In the plain of the Klettgau, the Schwarzbach flows with a slight gradient towards the west. It flows through Grießen and passes Geißlingen in the south (both municipality of Klettgau). At Oberlauchringen it flows with a water flow of around 0.64 m³ / s from the left into the Klingengraben.

Development

In addition to the Basel – Singen railway line, the main traffic route in the Klettgau plain is federal road 34 , which accompanies the Kotbach and Schwarzbach in the lower reaches. From Geißlingen , municipality of Klettgau, it is the state road 163 which, starting from the B 34, follows the course of the Schwarzbach and runs through its valley in the upper reaches to finally connect to the B 27 in Jestetten .

Castles along the stream

Above the Schwarzbach, near Riedern am Sand (municipality of Klettgau) lies the ruins of Neu-Krenkingen Castle, one of the castles of the Lords of Krenkingen with its headquarters near Krenkingen (town of Waldshut-Tiengen ). It is not to be confused with Gut-Krenkingen Castle .
