The Klingengraben is the most important drainage water of the Klettgau, 23.7 km long . It rises in the Swiss canton of Schaffhausen and joins in the district of Waldshut ( Baden-Wuerttemberg ) from the left into the High Rhine flowing Wutach . On its last 2 km stretch below the confluence of the main tributary Schwarzbach it is called Kotbach .

Section names

The river is in its Swiss History sections also Ergoltinger Bach , Selten Bach , Mülibach and Landgraben and down the state border in Germany blades ditch and in the lower reaches Kotbach .

course

The upper course of the main line of the Klingengraben rises - about 380 m northwest of the border with Germany - in Switzerland on the southern edge . Its source is located about 4 km southeast of Neunkirch (CH) at an altitude of about 560  m . After almost 200 m of the river, the first tributary joins from the south, which also rises at 581  m in Swiss territory near the state border.

A little later the river passes the Ergoltingerhof, from where it is also called Ergoltinger Bach . Then it runs through Neunkirch, after which the Seltenbach flows into it on the right , from where the river is also called Seltenbach . The water that flows into it flows from the drainage of the northern and eastern chain of hills that also border the Klettgau to the south. In the first few kilometers, the streams reach the Klettgau plain, which slopes slightly to the west. From Untereuhaus the body of water coming from Siblingen bears the name Mülibach for a short distance and from the confluence of the Halbbach to the state border (approx. River km 9.1) the name Landgraben .

Immediately after the border between Switzerland and Germany, the Klingengraben flows through the Erzingen district of the Klettgau municipality . From the confluence of the Schwarzbach (0.63 m³ / s) into the Klingengraben (0.96 m³ / s) above the Lauchringen district of Oberlauchringen , the remainder of the river bears the name Kotbach . 1.9 km further downriver, this flows into the Wutach in Oberlauchringen with an average water flow of 1.65 m³ / s at a height of 351  m .

Roads and railways

In Switzerland, the Klingengraben flows roughly along the main road 13 coming from Schaffhausen , which merges into the German federal road 34 at the border . Most of the river's course is accompanied by the Hochrheinbahn ( Basel - Konstanz ). The three traffic routes run alternately, but relatively close, along the river.
