history

When the village of Neubiendorf was founded as a miners' settlement in 1919, Catholic workers and their families moved to the Evangelical-Lutheran region. On March 25, 1928, the church , built under the pastor Franz Heinemann, was consecrated and received the patronage of the Sacred Heart of Jesus . In 1934 the parsonage was built, and in 1943 the church got a baptismal font.

After the Second World War , the number of Catholics in Neubiendorf increased further due to the influx of refugees and displaced persons from the eastern regions of the German Empire . The church was a branch church of the parish St. Norbert with seat in Merseburg in the diocese of Magdeburg . In 1952 she got a built from Merseburg organ building company Rudolf Kuhn organ .

With the end of mining and the decline in the number of Catholics, the church was profaned . The last service took place on August 20, 2006. Subsequently, the building was transferred for a symbolic purchase price to the Friends' Association, which had already been founded on June 12, 2006, restored and reopened on August 16, 2008 as a non-denominational church .

The church is open to visitors during the opening hours. It is used for exhibitions, concerts, lectures and other cultural events.

Architecture and equipment

The church with a roof turret was expanded to include the entrance annex in the post-war period.

The interior is largely from the 1950s. The winged altar , created in 1954 by Meinolf Splett ( Halle (Saale) ), shows the resurrection of Jesus Christ in the largest picture . The left wing depicts the miracle of Pentecost , the right wing depicts the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and the Last Judgment . As a symbol of the Eucharist , a depiction on the tabernacle shows a pelican tearing its chest open to feed its young with blood. The two statues to the left and right of the sanctuary represented Mary (mother of Jesus) and Joseph of Nazareth .
