Geld oder Leben is a Franco-German comedy film by Jean-Pierre Mocky , who also wrote the screenplay , from 1966. The main roles are played by the most famous comedians in their country, Heinz Rühmann and Fernandel .

The French entrepreneur Pelepan developed a cunning plan: in order to avert legal proceedings against a hair restorer that he sells with his company, his two employees, the Alsatian accountant Henry Schmidt and the cashier Charles Migue, are supposed to handle an illegal cash transfer for him.

He sends the two to Paris. With the money, the two go on what they consider to be a normal business trip on behalf of their boss. The film's plot picks up speed as they struggle to explain why they have so much cash with them. They get into a fiasco when, due to the many unexpected complications, in the end they even forget the reason for the trip, namely the handover of the money. Now it is finally clear to both of them that they were unknowingly involved in a criminal act. But they try to get the money themselves and put the masterminds to work.

Production notes

The film, shot in 1965, had its premiere in France on April 27, 1966 under the title La bourse et la vie . The work was premiered in Germany five months later, on September 27, 1966.

The film is a free remake of the German classic Der brave Sünder from 1931 by Fritz Kortner based on a script by Alfred Polgar . Rühmann also played alongside Max Pallenberg at that time.
