The Gelttalspitze ( 3126 m , also Geltalspitze , Italian Cima di Valfredda ) is a peak in the Rieserferner group in South Tyrol . It is located just under a kilometer north of the Gemsbichljoch, a transition from the Antholz Valley to the Reintal . Not far from the Gemsbichljoch is the Rieserfernerhütte , which was built in 1980 by the South Tyrolean Alpine Associationwas built in place of the former Fürth hut. The Gelttalspitze is the local mountain of the Rieserfernerhütte. The mountain is named after the Gelttal, the almost 6 kilometer long side valley of the Reintal, which rises from the southwest to the Gemsbichljoch. The entire area is part of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park .
On the western flank of the Gelttalspitze, 200 meters north of the Rieserfernerhütte, socks and other trousers were found at an altitude of 2841 m in 1992 and 1994 that date from the Hallstatt period and are therefore around 2,500-2,800 years old - the so-called Rieserferner find .
Increase opportunities
From the Rieserfernerhütte you first follow the marked ascent path to the Fernerköpfl in a northerly direction , which crosses the Geltalspitze on the southeast side. Even before this traverse, at an altitude of around 3000 m, you leave this path and reach the summit of the Gelttalspitze via the blocky south ridge without any difficult path. From the hut you can reach the summit in just under an hour.
