Manfred Kern (born August 11, 1958 in Mannheim ) is a German tax advisor , auditor , musician , politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) and member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg .

education and profession

After graduating from high school, Manfred Kern initially studied architecture in Darmstadt without a degree and then from 1981 to 1985 at the University of Applied Sciences in Worms, business administration specializing in transport / tourism. Then he was employed by an auditing company in Mannheim and finally in 1990 he became a tax consultant and sworn auditor with his own practice in Schwetzingen .

Party affiliation

Manfred Kern was a member of the SPD until 1980 . Then he got involved in the green alternative list in Brühl . Manfred Kern has been a member of the Greens since 1998. He was elected to the Schwetzingen municipal council in 1999. During the controversy surrounding the Bundeswehr's mission in Afghanistan , Kern left the party. In 2006 he became a member of the Greens again. He justified his renewed commitment by saying that he wanted to prevent the re-election of the Schwetzingen CDU mayor Bernd Kappenstein .

Local politician

From 2009 to 2014 he was a member of the district council of the Rhein-Neckar district . There he was transport policy spokesman for the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen parliamentary group and a member of the cultural commission.

Election results

In 2011 , Kern ran for Alliance 90 / The Greens in the Schwetzingen state electoral district . With 23.5% it was behind the candidates of the CDU and the SPD . That was enough to get a second mandate.

In the 2016 election , he received the direct mandate with 26.6 percent of the vote, 1006 votes ahead of the CDU candidate Thomas Birkenmaier.

In 2020 he announced that he would no longer run in the next state election. Instead, he is running for the office of mayor in Bensheim .

For the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen parliamentary group, the core is the cultural policy spokesperson and contact person for the state working group of memorials and memorial initiatives in Baden-Württemberg . In the 15th electoral term he was also spokesman for monument preservation.

Former board member

In 2012, Kern was one of the founding members of the Learning Place of Civil Courage & Resistance project and was its founding board member. In February 2019, he ended his position on the board of the project.

Family and private

Manfred Kern is Protestant. He lives in Schwetzingen, is married and has three children. In his free time he is involved as a singer in the Schwetzingen Jazz Initiative. Due to his initiative, an appearance in the Baden-Württemberg state parliament took place.
