history
The first hut on Gemsbichljoch was built in 1903 by the Fürth section of the DuÖAV as the Fürther hut . After the First World War , it was expropriated by the Italian state and subsequently fell into disuse. In the 1970s, the Bolzano and Bruneck sections of the Alpine Club South Tyrol decided to build a new building next to the old hut, which was inaugurated in 1980 and later awarded the environmental seal of approval for Alpine Club huts .
In 1992 and 1994, Gottfried Leitgeb, the landlord of the Rieserfernerhütte, found several remains of tissue from the Hallstatt period , the so-called Rieserfernerfound , near the refuge .
