Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech (abbreviation GxABT ) is the name of a department of the University of Liege with the location Gembloux in the Belgian province of Namur . Until 2009, the school was an independent higher education institution (faculty) for agricultural and bioengineering, which was called Faculté universitaire des Sciences agronomiques de Gembloux (abbreviation FUSAGx ). The school is the oldest Belgian teaching and research establishment exclusively dedicated to agriculture and bioengineering.

history

In 1860 the Institut agricole de l'Etat was founded in Gembloux , the first Belgian higher education institution for agricultural sciences. In 1920 the institute was renamed Institut agronomique de l'Etat and in 1965 the Faculté des Sciences agronomiques de l'Etat . Today the French Community of Belgium is responsible for the university. In 2009 the Faculté universitaire des Sciences agronomiques de Gembloux merged with the University of Liège and has since been called Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech (GxABT) .
