Georg André

Georg-Willi André (born April 1, 1920 in Elberfeld ; † December 5, 1982 ) was a German party functionary of the GDR block party NDPD . From 1950 to 1963 he was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Life

After attending primary and secondary school, the miner's son André became a textile merchant. In 1938 he passed the Chamber of Commerce examination. He was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1940 and as an officer was taken prisoner by the Soviets in 1944. There he became a member of the NKFD and attended an Antifa school .

After the Second World War and his return to Germany, the 30-year-old was elected to the People's Chamber of the GDR for the National Democratic Party of Germany (NDPD) in 1950 . André was a member of the election examination committee and belonged to the People's Chamber until April 1963. From 1950 he was employed full-time in the NDPD, initially in the press and radio department, and from the end of 1953 as head of the main department for all-German issues of the party executive. From 1950 he was a member of the main board and from 1951 (after the renaming) of the main committee of the NDPD.

In 1951/1952 he was editor-in-chief of the NDPD central organ National-Zeitung and 1952/1953 first chairman of the NDPD district association Rostock . With the state examination in 1954 he completed a degree in political science and law. Then André was a member of the Presidium of the German League for the United Nations. In the Berlin district of Friedrichshain from 1968 he was deputy mayor of the district, district councilor for trade and supply (successor to Georg Kubitza) and from March 1970 member of the district council of Friedrichshain.

André received the Ernst Moritz Arndt Medal in 1960 and the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze in 1977 . He was also awarded the Gold Badge of Honor of the Society for German-Soviet Friendship .

He was married and died at the age of 62.
