Georg Celestine

Georg Coelestin (born April 23, 1525 in Plauen , † December 13, 1579 in Berlin ; also Georg Himmlisch , Georg Himmel and Georg Uranius ) was a German Lutheran theologian and clergyman .

Life

Georg Coelestin was born on April 23, 1525 in Plauen to a merchant and Walpurgis Gebhardt was born as a son and had a brother, Johann Friedrich Coelestin . After Georg Coelestin had studied at the University of Leipzig , he received the title of Magister in 1546 . In 1549 he found a job as a pastor in Schneeberg, he became a deacon at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig in 1551, and in 1564 he became court preacher in Berlin . Five years later, in 1569, he received his doctorate in theology. Since 1571 he was provost of the Berlin Cathedral andSenior consistorial councilor active. He died on December 13, 1579 in Berlin, shortly before he was supposed to be appointed superintendent . Coelestin, who was married to Ursula Kersten, had, among other things, collected and edited Luther's letters .
