Georg Drescher (born March 17, 1870 in Mainz , † October 23, 1938 in Vienna ) was a German athlete.

Life

Sports

Georg Drescher was active in several sports, including weightlifting , cycling , wrestling , swimming and billiards . In 1890 he took part in the Hessian championships in wrestling and weightlifting in the Frankfurter Hof in Mainz. As an amateur stayer , he won several championships, including those of Europe and Germany. At the Olympic Games in Paris in 1900 , he started in the cycling competitions in the sprint , but was unsuccessful. In 1911 he started over 100 km at the unofficial track world championships organized by Germany. In 1897 he built a cycling track on Drususwall in Mainz , the Velodrom Mainz , which he ran himself and which existed until 1928. He was chairman and co-founder of the rowing society in the Mainz sports clubs, the Mainz hockey club and the Mainz ice skating club . Professionally, he worked in the car trade.

Georg Drescher was president of the Mainz Prinzengarde from 1910 to 1914 and from 1925 to 1929 at the Mainz Carnival .

death

During the European weightlifting championships in Vienna in 1938 , Drescher died of a heart attack . His grave is in the main cemetery in Mainz .
