Georg Ehrenreich von Werther (born May 4, 1742 in Gersdorf , Dramburg district , † 1816 in Ratibor ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 12 .

Life

His parents were Hans Heinrich von Werther († 1754) and his wife Elisabeth Dionysia Philippine, born von Borcke (1702–1762), a daughter of the Chancellor of the Neumark Georg Matthias von Borcke (1671–1740) and sister of the Minister Kaspar Wilhelm von Borcke . His father was a Prussian captain a. D. in Infantry Regiment No. 22 and heir of Alt-Strudnitz and Kallies. Lieutenant General Philipp August Wilhelm von Werther (1729–1802) was his brother.

Military career

Werther became Standartenjunker in the cuirassier regiment No. 4 in 1756 . In the Seven Years' War he took part in the battles of Prague , Breslau , Leuthen , Hochkirch , Torgau and Freiberg . During the war he became a cadet on February 10, 1758 and a lieutenant on March 9, 1760.

After the war, it was not until June 1, 1772 that he was promoted to the rank of chief of staff and on July 6, 1775, he became captain and company commander . As such, he then took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On November 1, 1781 he became a major , on August 11, 1790, a lieutenant colonel and on May 20, 1792, a colonel . As such, he participated in the suppression of the Polish national Kościuszko uprising . On September 11, 1796, Werther received the post of regimental commander. The king appointed him chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 12 on May 1, 1798 . His promotion to major general took place on May 20, 1798. On December 12, 1803 he received his resignation with a pension of 1000 thalers. After the lost war of 1806 he only received half his pension , but from 1814 the full one again. He died in Racibórz in 1816.
