Georg Lechner (born August 18, 1941 in Augsburg) is a former German soccer player . From 1964 to 1966, the offensive player played 45 games in the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt and scored 16 goals.
Career
Georg Lechner played since 1961 in the Soccer-Oberliga Süd for TSV Schwaben Augsburg . In the 1960/61 season he was runner-up with TSV Schwaben - the local rival BC Augsburg won the championship - the 2nd League South rose to the top division. On August 6, 1961, Georg Lechner's nephew made his debut in the away game against Kickers Offenbach as a center forward in the former World Cup system in the Oberliga Süd. The two derbies against the BCA with Helmut Haller , Herbert Ammer and Walter Rauh decided the purple-white Swabians 2-0 and 1-0 for themselves. In the last year of the old first-class league system, 1962/63, Lechner was also active in the last game on April 28, 1963, in the 2-1 away win at Eintracht Frankfurt, and scored a goal like left winger Erwin Metzger . For the Swabians, he completed all 60 league games in the two years of the Oberliga and scored 28 goals. As a result of the newly introduced football league from 1963/64, Schwaben Augsburg played the association games in the Regionalliga Süd from this season . With the attacker Kurt Haseneder (33-17), who came from 1. FC Nürnberg , he formed a dangerous duo. On the third match day, August 18, 1963, TSV Schwaben defeated the eventual champions KSV Hessen Kassel with 7-2 goals. Haseneder with three and Lechner with two goals were the outstanding strikers of this encounter. On the tenth game day, October 13th, a 3-1 victory was achieved against Kickers Offenbach on the Bieberer Berg. Lechner had to do with middle runner Hermann Nuber and Sigfried Held checked the Swabian defensive. The second round match was won against Kassel with 5: 3 goals in front of 30,000 spectators in the Auestadion. The two other top games in the second half of the season against Offenbach and Bayern Munich each ended with a 2-2 draw. Lechner played 35 games and scored 18 goals. TSV Schwaben took fourth place behind Kassel, Bayern Munich and Offenbach. His talent was recognized by his appointment to the junior national team of the DFB on November 27, 1963 in Liverpool at the international match against England. With Klaus Gerwien , Diethelm Ferner , Rudi Brunnenmeier and Gerhard Elfert he formed the German attack in the 1: 4 defeat and also scored the consolation goal .
In 1964 he moved to the Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt . In addition to the Augsburg player, other newcomers were Peter Blusch from Siegen and the Austrian attacker Hans-Georg Tutschek . Lechner only made his Bundesliga debut on matchday 12, November 21, 1964, in a 1-0 home win against Borussia Neunkirchen. Eintracht coach Ivica Horvat had called the attack with Helmut Kraus , Lechner, Erwin Stein, Wilhelm Huberts and Lothar Schämer . In the second half of the season Lechner was active in all games for Eintracht. The technician with scoring qualities had a great day on March 6, 1965 at the reigning German champions 1. FC Köln. Eintracht won the away game against the defending champion with 4: 3 goals and Lechner advanced to “the best man on the pitch” with three goals. In the second Eintracht season, 1965/66, he got to know the training ideas of the internationally experienced Elek Schwartz . On the player side, Jürgen Grabowski , Walter Bechtold , Oskar Lotz , Karl-Heinz Wirth , Peter Kunter and the old star István Sztani were several contenders for regular places at the Riederwald. Schwartz tried to introduce the 4: 2: 4 system at Eintracht. The start came with a 2-0 home win on August 14, 1965 against Hamburger SV. With Lindner, Lechner formed the midfield axis and scored a goal. In the 6-0 home win on September 11, 1965 against 1. FC Kaiserslautern, he distinguished himself as a three-time goalscorer. Lechner played with Eintracht for two years in the upper house of German football, where he made 45 Bundesliga appearances and 16 goals. He played his last Bundesliga game on May 14, 1966 in a 1-0 home win against Karlsruher SC. He played in the attack alongside Grabowski, Huberts and Wolfgang Solz . This season he had also made six appearances with two goals in the Intertoto Cup against IFK Norrköping, PSV Eindhoven and FC La Chaux-de-Fonds.
Then he returned to TSV Schwaben Augsburg, where he played 48 games in the Regionalliga Süd in which he scored 13 goals. After the 1: 3 home defeat on October 20, 1968 against SC Opel Rüsselsheim, he ended his career in paid football under coach Werner Roth and at the side of fellow players Wolfgang Böhni , Kurt Haseneder, Heiner Schuhmann and Walter Sohnle . After quarrels in the course of the round, he joined the Augsburg district club TSV Göggingen in the amateur camp. With the 1970/71 season at SSV Ulm 1846 he ended his playing career. Overall, Lechner is led with 83 games in the Regionalliga Süd with 31 goals. For the 1970/71 season he is also mentioned as coach of FC Augsburg .
