career

Youth and Regionalliga Süd, until 1974

From the youth department of his home club FV Baden-Oos , Wolfgang Böhni moved to the A-youth of the Bundesliga club Karlsruher SC in 1965 after persuading former Karlsruhe upper division player Werner Roth . In 1966 he received a professional contract worth 400 marks a month in the wildlife park. The 1.69 m tall striker and midfielder played mostly in the reserve round and tried to orientate himself on the skills of fellow players Arthur Dobat , Eugen Ehmann , Lars Granström , David Scheu , Lutz Streitenbürger and Friedhelm Strzelczyk . In his first round in the Bundesliga, 1966/67 , he surprisingly came on December 21, 1966 in the 1-0 win away game against MSV Duisburg - Dragoslav Šekularac fell out due to a strain shortly before the game - as a left winger in Wedau . In the duels against defender Hartmut Heidemann he got to know the upper class of the defensive game of the Bundesliga at the time. Due to the competition of the newcomers Christian Müller , Dragoslav Šekularac, Friedhelm Strzelczyk and Jürgen Weidlandt , the youth player who came from the A-youth did not get any further use in the Bundesliga. Since the French KSC coach Paul Frantz attacked a national player on the left wing of Baden with Gérard Hausser for the 1967/68 round and the KSC fought in vain against relegation, Böhni was left with a Bundesliga assignment. In 1968/69 he followed the call of his "discoverer" Werner Roth, who had started as a coach at Schwaben Augsburg in the Regionalliga Süd.

Böhni, a strong player for the left side of the field, played 31 games for TSV Schwaben alongside Kurt Haseneder and Georg Lechner and scored nine goals. The highlight for the former KSC youth player was his winning goal on May 4, 1969 for a 2-1 home win against ex-Bundesliga club Karlsruher SC. However, Augsburg rose at the end of the round from the Regionalliga, so that Böhni signed a new contract with SSV Reutlingen for the 1969/70 round .

In the Achalmstadt Böhni belonged in the three seasons 1969/70 to 1971/72 with 104 completed games and 24 goals scored continuously to the narrow circle of the regular cast of the team from the stadium at the Kreuzeiche . While Werner Roth was still active as a trainer in his first season in Reutlingen, he experienced two other trainers in 1970/71 with Pál Csernai and in 1971/72 with Willibald Hahn . In the first year he met the ex-KSC player Peter Zacher and the old SSV veterans Rolf Schafstall and Günther Kasperski . In the second Reutlingen year, 1970/71, he was the second best shooter with nine goals behind Franz Wolny , who led the SSV scorer list with 14 goals. The round with the later Bayern master trainer Csernai was characterized by the fight against relegation, which was won just one point ahead of VfR Mannheim. In his third season in Reutlingen, 1971/72, Böhni completed 34 games and scored eleven goals, making him the top scorer for SSV, who came in tenth with coach Hahn. In 1972, the trained heating fitter actually wanted to return to Baden-Baden, since he had completed his master craftsman examination and had also received the order to move to Achern. But since he received a financially lucrative contract offer from SpVgg Bayreuth and the Upper Franconians were also able to resolve the problem of military service with the Bundeswehr in a satisfactory manner, he moved to Bayreuth in 1972.

In the municipal stadium on Ellrodtweg Böhni came in the last two seasons of the old second-rate Regionalliga Süd, 1972 to 1974, under coach Jenő Vincze with the yellow-blacks on places four and five. With 65 association games and thirteen goals, he was also a member of the team in Bayreuth alongside Manfred Großler , Klaus Brand , Bruno Dvorak , Siegfried Grimm , Herbert Horn , Wolfgang Mahr and Ewald Schäffner . Without his private and professional commitments in Baden, Böhni would have liked to stay in Bayreuth, but moved to Mannheim when the 2nd Bundesliga was introduced in 1974/75 and then joined SV Waldhof for another ten years as an active player. From 1968 to 1974 Böhni played a total of 200 games in the regional soccer league, scoring 46 goals.

SV Waldhof Mannheim, 1974 to 1984

Under coach Philipp pipe Böhni denied in the debut round of the 2nd Bundesliga, 1974-75, the only Waldhof player every 38 round games and finished with his teammates Walter Pradt , Günter Sebert , Bernd Bartels , Karlheinz Miessmer , Peter Schneider and Heinrich Schnitzer eighth Rank. In addition to changing coaches - Anton Rudinski , Slobodan Cendic , Georg Gawliczek - the talents of Paul Steiner , Werner Heck , Werner Nickel , Roland Dickgießer , Hans Hein , grew alongside Böhni, who has now moved from defensive midfield role to the position of playmaker , Karl-Heinz Bührer , Dieter Schlindwein , Uwe Zimmermann , Oskar Bauer , Alfred Schön and Karl-Heinz Emig became the bearers of hope. When from FV 09 Weinheim for the 1981/82 round, the fast-paced striker Fritz Walter joined the blue-blacks trained by Klaus Schlappner , Waldhof took sixth place in the table in the first single-track 2nd Bundesliga and had justified hope of winning this place in the next rounds to improve. Böhni, the 34-year-old veteran, had contributed five goals in 35 games. When Waldhof won the title two points ahead of Kickers Offenbach in the 1982/83 round and was promoted to the Bundesliga, Böhni had to take longer breaks for the first time due to injury and only made 15 appearances with one goal. From 1974 to 1983 he had played 298 games in the 2nd Bundesliga and scored 38 goals.

Waldhof made his debut on August 13, 1983 with a 2-0 home win against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga. Wolfgang Böhni - he celebrated his 35th birthday on March 6, 1983 - played his second game in the Bundesliga on August 23, 1983 after a break of 16 and a half years. Böhni and the Waldhof team scored a point at VfB Stuttgart with a 0-0 draw . Coach Schlappner now clearly relied on Hans Hein, Ulf Quaisser , Rainer Scholz and Alfred Schön in midfield, and Böhni only made eight appearances with one goal in the 1983/84 Bundesliga round . In the summer of 1984, the SV Waldhof gold needle holder ended his playing career.

After the career

Böhni lives and works today (2009) as a self-employed heating installer in Baden-Baden and has been a club official at FV Baden-Oos for years.
