Werner Heck (born April 21, 1955 in Haßloch ) is a former German soccer player . Heck played 184 times for 1. FC Saarbrücken , 1. FC Nürnberg and SV Waldhof Mannheim in the Bundesliga .

Career as a player

SV Chio Waldhof 07

Heck played from 1975 to 1977 for SV Waldhof Mannheim , which at that time had just renamed itself SV Chio Waldhof 07 , in the 2nd Bundesliga South . He played his first second division game on August 9, 1975 in a 2-0 defeat against 1. FSV Mainz 05 . On the 35th matchday of the 1975/76 season , he scored his first goal to 2-0 against SSV Jahn Regensburg . In the next season he was much more successful. He was used in all 38 games and scored 23 goals. With that he finished second in the top scorer list behind Lothar Emmerich from FV Würzburg 04 (24 goals). Among other things, he scored four goals in a row in just 16 minutes in the game against FK Pirmasens , plus three doubles in other games.

1. FC Saarbrücken

The successful season aroused interest from above, so that in 1977 he finally moved to 1. FC Saarbrücken in the Bundesliga . He played his first game in the German upper house on August 6, 1977 against Eintracht Frankfurt , which was clearly lost 4-0. The rest of the season also went anything but good for Heck and his team. He only hit four times, but once in his own network. The Saarbrücken relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga South. There, however, Heck flourished again. In the following two years he scored a total of 32 times for the Saarlanders.

1. FC Nuremberg

In 1980, Heck dared a new attempt in the Bundesliga when he switched to 1. FC Nürnberg . After a mixed first year, the 1981/82 season was much more successful. This was also thanks to the new coach Udo Klug , who gave him support. Together with Werner Dreßel , Heck formed the so-called Werner Brothers in the storm of the club . The kicker sports magazine wrote in May 1982: “To the sheer delight, the tips Heck and Dreßel have made themselves out. Their miraculous transformation from failure to high achievers symbolizes the Klug era. When Klug came, Heck had only managed one goal in five games. Heck cleverly predicted that he would still score 15 goals this season. There is only one thing missing now! Written off at the beginning of the season, Werner Heck rose to become a real Bundesliga class ”. Heck scored 14 goals this season and reached the final of the DFB Cup with the Nuremberg team , which, however, was lost 2: 4 at halftime despite a 2-0 lead. He played in Nuremberg for another two years but was not really happy. In September 1982 he complained in Kicker about the fans ("They always whistle with me. They see everything I do negatively".) And the journalists ("With them I'm always the bogeyman"). The 7th matchday of the 1982/83 season was curious . In the game against Borussia Dortmund he first scored an own goal to 0-1 deficit, but then two more hits in the right goal, so that the game could still be won 3-2.

SV Waldhof Mannheim

After relegation in the 1983/84 season , Heck switched back to SV Waldhof Mannheim, which has since been renamed and played in the Bundesliga . Right in the first season a remarkable 6th place in the league could be achieved. Heck stayed in Mannheim until 1988, but the number of missions became less and less. In the last two years he has only played nine games.

SV Edenkoben

In the 1988/89 season, Heck joined SV Edenkoben . Surprisingly, Edenkoben was champion of the Oberliga Südwest and after the season took part in the promotion games for the 2nd Bundesliga, where the Palatinate did not get past fourth and thus last place and missed promotion.

SV Viktoria Herxheim

At SV Viktoria Herxheim , he took over the position of player-coach. Under his aegis, the team became champions in the Association League Southwest and won the SWFV Association Cup (1991), which qualified them for the DFB Cup in the following season.

statistics

Heck can look back on a remarkable number of 184 Bundesliga games (45 goals) and 135 second division games (56 goals). There are also eight appearances in the DFB Cup, in which he was able to score a goal.

Career as a coach

After his active career, he coached various lower-class clubs, most recently the association league club 1. FC 08 Haßloch . He has been with the regional league team ASV Landau since 2009 . After two relegations, ASV Landau is now playing with Heck as a coach in the district class south in the district of Vorderpfalz (2011).
