career

Ironically, in 1974/75 , the year in which the licensed players of VfB Stuttgart were relegated from the Bundesliga, attacker Georg Müllner had a great season in the amateur team of VfB in the DFB Cup. After successes against FC Villingen 08 (8: 4 n.V .; four Müllner goals), 1. FC Pforzheim (2: 0; 1 goal), Bayer 04 Leverkusen (2: 0; 1 goal), Tennis Borussia Berlin (2: 1; 1 goal) Müllner failed only in the quarter-finals of the 1974/75 Cup with a 4-0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund. Under coach Hermann Eppenhoff , Müllner made his first two Bundesliga appearances in the first half of the season: He came on as a substitute for Manfred Weidmann in a 5-1 home win against Wuppertaler SV on October 9 and scored his first Bundesliga goal just three minutes later. On November 9, Eppenhoff's Müllner came on for the second time in a 2-1 home defeat against eventual champions Borussia Mönchengladbach in the 67th minute for Hans Ettmayer . Under Eppenhoff's successor Albert Sing (from December 14, 1974) there was only another use at the end of the round, on May 3, 1975 in a 1: 5 defeat on the Bökelberg against BMG. For the 1975/76 round he signed a contract with SV Werder Bremen and remained in the Bundesliga, unlike VfB, but still as an amateur.

At the Weser he came back to a team that went through a change of coach and with 13th place at least achieved relegation. The 1975/76 season began with the Green-Whites under coach Herbert Burdenski . The newcomer from Stuttgart came on for Jürgen Röber for the first time on the third match day, August 22, 1975, in a 4-0 defeat at Bayern Munich . After the 0: 1 defeat at home on February 21, 1976 Burdenski was in 14th place with 18:26 points, replaced on February 29 by Otto Rehhagel . In the second game under Rehhagel, who was still a firefighter at the time, on March 13, 1976 in a 1-1 draw at 1. FC Köln, Müllner ran alongside Röber, Franz Hiller and Uwe Bracht in Werder midfield. Bremen lost the last round match with Müllner with 0: 2 at Rot-Weiss Essen and finished the round with 30:38 points in 13th place. Müllner had played 21 games and scored two goals. Due to his play at Werder, Müllner had made himself interesting for the amateur national team of the DFB. He made his debut on November 12, 1975 in the international match against Luxembourg A in a 1-0 win in the amateur national team. He was substituted on for Werder colleague Wolfgang Schlief . In the course of the second half of the season he came on April 7, 1976 in Bremerhaven in the game against Denmark Juniors (1-0) for his second use with the DFB amateurs. The attack ran in the formation of Rudolf Seliger , Müllner, Schlief, Ewald Hammes and Hansi Müller . In 1976/77, Müllner entered Werder's second year under the new coach Hans Tilkowski . The former national goalkeeper of the 1966 World Cup in England brought Müllner into action in the first two match days, but after that he decided not to participate. Müllner made his debut on September 11, 1976 at Eintracht Trier under coach Hans-Wilhelm Loßmann in a 2-0 home win against KSV Baunatal in the 2nd Bundesliga.

Hans-Dieter Roos took over from Loßmann in January 1977 and Trier managed to stay in the league with 17th place due to Röchling Völklingen's license waiver. At the side of teammates such as Helmut Bergfelder , Rolf Bauerkämper , Werner Vollack (goalkeeper), Reiner Brinsa , Heinz Histing and former Werder colleague Schlief, Müllner had played 31 second division games for Trier and scored nine goals. In the next three rounds, the man from Stuttgart played in 104 second division games for Trier and scored 14 goals. For the 1980/81 season he moved to league rivals VfR OLI Bürstadt. Under coach Lothar Kleim , he completed all 38 rounds of matches and also distinguished himself as an eight-time goalscorer alongside other players such as Jürgen Stars (goalkeeper), Horst Schauß , Hans-Otto Jordan and Eugen Hupp . Bürstadt took 13th place, but could not qualify for the single-track 2nd Bundesliga starting from 1981/82. For this reason, after only one year in Bürstadt, Müllner signed a new contract with Wormatia Worms for the 1981/82 season. Things didn't go well in Worms: Wormatia was relegated to the amateur camp in 18th place with 24:52 points and Müllner had only scored one goal in 27 league appearances. With the home game on May 29, 1982 against Hertha BSC (1-0), he said goodbye to paid football.
