Georg Schmid (religious scholar)

Georg Schmid (born June 21, 1940 in Chur ) is a Swiss Protestant Reformed religious scholar , theologian and pastor .

Life

Georg Schmid grew up in the canton of Graubünden . He studied Protestant theology and religious studies in Zurich, Bern, Basel, Rome and Alexandria, Virginia , USA . From 1965 to 1970 he worked as a parish priest in Graubünden. Then he worked as a seminar leader in Zurich and Chur and from 1986 to 2003 as parish priest in Greifensee . In 1988 he became adjunct professor for religious studies at the University of Zurich . In 1993 he took over the leadership of the Evangelical Information Center for Churches - Sects - Religions from Oswald Eggenberger , which was founded in 1963. In 2013 he handed over the management of the information center to his son and theologian Georg Otto Schmid . Schmid is also the author of numerous non-fiction books and poet of hymns .
