Georg Wegener

Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Georg Wegener (born May 31, 1863 in Brandenburg an der Havel , † July 8, 1939 in Berlin ) was a German geographer and explorer.

Georg Wegener was the son of pastor Wilhelm Wegener. He studied geography , history , German and Protestant religion in Heidelberg , Leipzig , Berlin and Marburg . In 1891 he received his doctorate under Theobald Fischer in Marburg with the dissertation attempt at an orography of the Kwen-Lun . From 1892 he made numerous trips, a. a. 1892 to Spain , 1896 to Spitzbergen , 1897/1898 to Ceylon , Middle East and Egypt , 1900/01 to North America , Samoa , New Zealand and China , 1903 to Central America , 1905–1907 to India , Southeast Asia , Japan and again China. In 1910 he accompanied Crown Prince Wilhelm to India. Wegener was a lecturer from 1910 and professor at the Handelshochschule Berlin from 1919 to 1931 and its rector in 1926/1927. During the First World War he was a war correspondent at the Grand Headquarters . 1928/1929 Wegener was executive chairman of the Aeroarctic .
