Georg Wilhelm von Minckwitz

Georg Wilhelm von Minckwitz (born February 21, 1736 in Silesia , † March 19, 1796 in Warsaw ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the cuirassier regiment "von Mengden" .

Life

origin

His parents were Karl Friedrich von Minckwitz (* September 28, 1689; † June 1, 1740) and his wife Maria Charlotte, born von Zeilberg, widowed von Reutz (* 1700; † March 19, 1752). His father was a Swedish and Landgrave Hessian major and heir to Ofendorf and Buchwald.

Military career

Minckwitz came to the cuirassier regiment "von Rochow" on June 1, 1750 as a standard squire . There he became a cornet on July 29, 1756 and took part in the Seven Years' War as such . He fought in the battles of Lobositz , Kolin , Leuthen , Zorndorf , Liegnitz , Torgau and Freiberg . Minckwitz became a lieutenant on May 7, 1758, and staff officer in his regiment on May 27, 1761 .

After the war he became a captain and company commander on July 23, 1769 . As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . Then he was transferred to the cuirassier regiment "von Mengden" on October 6, 1779 and major on May 23, 1788. Within the regiment, Minckwitz rose to major general on January 11, 1795. He then died on March 19, 1796 in Warsaw.

Minckwitz married Charlotte Luise von Brösigke on November 19, 1771 (* August 1, 1742; † October 17, 1796). The couple had the following children:
