Georg von Frauenfeld

Georg Ritter von Frauenfeld (born June 3, 1807 in Vienna ; † October 8, 1873 ibid) was a k. k. Austrian natural scientist and zoologist specializing in entomology and malacology . Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Frauenf. ".

Frauenfeld was the custodian of the mollusc collection in what was then the "kk Zoologischer Hof-Cabinet" (today: Natural History Museum Vienna ). In 1851 he founded the “Zoological-Botanical Society” in Vienna and from 1857 to 1859 took part in the Novara expedition . In 1868 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

Frauenfeld is buried at the cemetery in Hinterbrühl in Lower Austria.
