Georg Adam von Graevenitz (born May 26, 1731 in Wesel , † October 19, 1798 in Breslau ) was a Prussian major general and commander of Breslau.

Life

His parents were Hans Friedrich Wilhelm von Graevenitz (1689-1746), colonel and commander of the "Walrave" regiment and his wife Helene Maria, née Hochklimmern († 1744), whom he married in 1717. His brother was the Prussian infantry general Friedrich August von Graevenitz .

Military career

Graevenitz came to the Joachimsthaler Gymnasium on September 21, 1741 . In 1746 he was employed as a corporal in the infantry regiment "von Schwerin" of the Prussian army . There he was transferred to the Pioneer Regiment No. 49 on May 31, 1751 and ensign and on August 19, 1756 as Second Lieutenant . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the siege of Neisse and in the battles of Kay and Kunersdorf . At that time he became Prime Lieutenant on August 10, 1758 .

After the war, he became a staff captain on January 29, 1766, and on September 14, 1766, both captain and company commander . He took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession and was promoted to major on September 17, 1778. On June 1, 1787, he was appointed commander of the regiment's grenadier battalion. On June 16, 1787 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on June 13, 1789 to colonel . On July 15, 1790, he was transferred to the Glatz Fortress as commandant . On November 6, 1793, he was finally promoted to major general and appointed commander of Breslau. He died unmarried on October 19, 1798 in Breslau.
