George (also All Because of George ) is an international television series that was produced from 1972 to 1973. It tells of the adventures of the charter pilot Jim Hunter with his dog, St. Bernard George, in the Swiss mountains.

content

Jim Hunter runs a charter airline in the Swiss mountains with his friend Walter Clark. George is a clumsy, but lovable and good-natured Saint Bernard dog with a fear of flying that Jim took over from his sister. Mrs. Gerber, who is a bit superstitious, runs the household. George often plays with the orphan Freddie from the big city, who lives with his aunt Helga. They have some adventures together.

background

The idea for the series came from Marshall Thompson , who previously played the lead role in the popular television series Daktari . During a visit to Munich and Zurich in 1969, he was fascinated by the mountains. The film was shot in Grindelwald, Switzerland . The series was sponsored by Bavarian Radio and Swiss Television .

The lead actor of the series came to a sad end a few years after the series ended. Probably caused by a brain tumor, the one million Swiss francs insured dog fell on a girl in March 1973 and was therefore shot a short time later by a police officer in his kennel.

actor

Marshall Thompson and Jack Mullaney starred in the pilot and the series. Erna Sellmer , Trudy Young and Volker Stewart could only be seen in the series.
