George B. Seitz

George Brackett Seitz (born January 3, 1888 in Boston , Massachusetts , † July 8, 1944 in Hollywood , California ) was an American film director and screenwriter .

Life

George Seitz began his career as a playwright , illustrator and stage actor and joined the fledgling film industry in Hollywood in 1913. He started out at Pathé as an actor and screenwriter. From 1914 he developed series of adventure films for Pathé with the actress Pearl White in the leading roles. He also stayed true to the genre of adventure and action films as a director. In 1925 he made his first feature film with the western Among the horse thieves in Arizona . The main roles were played by Jack Holt and Noah Beery . With the introduction of the sound film, his repertoire expanded to include romantic comedies and crime films. His greatest successes in the 1930s and 1940s include the films in the Andy Hardy series with Mickey Rooney in the title role.

The cameraman John F. Seitz was his brother. His son George B. Seitz Jr. , also a director and screenwriter, became known for his work on the television series The Lone Ranger .
